A Revolution in Home Entertainment Systems - Touchscreens & Media Servers
Home entertainment systems have come a long way since you ooh’ ed and ahh’ed because your neighbor had a few pairs of speakers that actually fit flush into his walls. That’s old news now. Even homes in comparatively modest new developments are being outfitted with a full complement of audio, network, TV and telephone wiring. In many developments the builder offers a standard wiring package and various upgrades for additional wiring, speakers, wiring enclosures and even full control systems.
Systems have evolved to include sleek, wall-mounted touch screens that allow simple access to your music and other house functions such as security, lighting, HVAC, and motorized window treatments. A talented programmer can make these systems function with true “one touch” simplicity. It’s almost as if they’re reading your mind.
The touch screen’s advantage is that it can change the control interface to only show what you need at any one time. This affords tremendous flexibility while retaining the simplicity people desire. The touch screen interface is extremely powerful when combined with another technology that has come into prominence recently; the hard disc based media server.
Your CDs are downloaded, or ripped, onto a hard drive. This combination allows your entire music catalog to be displayed on the touch screen for easy searching. You can typically search by artist, song title, genre, or album. Once the desired selection is located, you just touch it on the screen and it begins to play.
These hard drive servers use computer hard drives and modern compression techniques to store phenomenal amounts of music in a simple audio component less than half the size of a 200 disc CD changer. They function just like a typical CD player, not your computer, so they are reliable and easy to use.
Media servers have exploded in popularity recently because of the enormous popularity of compressed music formats such as MP3 and the fantastic array of functionality a disc based system allows.
For those who have, or do, own CD mega changers, a hard drive music server will be like a breath of fresh air.
Access to any song is typically less than a second away. Contrast that to selecting disc 94 in your 300-disc CD changer when you are playing disc 201. With a multi-room audio system, you may be on the other side of your house trying to do this with a keypad or remote control. The wait for your changer to return the disc it was playing then trundle the carousel around to your desired disc can seem like an eternity.
Another advantage is easy cataloging. Most hard drive systems will recognize any CD you insert for ripping and if they don’t, they are connected to the internet for access to a giant database. This they access automatically to gather artist, album and track information. Gone are the days of using a keyboard or remote to tediously enter the information about your CDs into a CD changer. You can also stop worrying about which slot your discs are in. “Let’s see, was Led Zeppelin IV in slot 90 or 190?”
Using a hard drive server frees up your CDs for use elsewhere such as your car, boat or vacation home.
In addition, since your CDs are not locked up in a changer, your collection is able to be enjoyed by many members of the family at once. With a changer, if someone is listening to it, all of the discs inside it are basically off limits. With a changer, not only are your CDs free for use in other locations but many hard drive servers provide multiple audio outputs.
Multiple outputs enable you to listen to different discs in different areas of the house if your system is so configured. For example, one person could be listening to Korn in the rec room while Bach’s Requiem is being played in the kitchen and Dire Straights in the bedroom. With a conventional CD changer, this is impossible.
You can also buy and store music from many online music services and store those on your hard drive server.
Hard drive servers offer advantages over music files stored on a computer as well. Because they function like a traditional audio component, they are easier to use for many people. It is also easier to integrate them with touch screen based home control systems. This will begin to change as the popularity of multimedia PCs such as those running Microsoft XP Media Center Edition 2005 increases.
These units are many steps closer to delivering the long promised “convergence” between consumer electronics and computers. Multimedia PCs, also known as HTPCs [Home Theater PC] function as DVD players, personal video recorders (similar to a TiVO), and hard drive media storage.
They allow storage of digital photos for easy display on your TV or monitor. HTPCs can, of course, browse the net on your TV via your broadband connection. As hard drive storage becomes more economical and compression techniques become better, the storage of HD movies and HDTV programming will become commonplace.
Soon these types of servers and interfaces will become the norm rather than the exception. You’ll think nothing of the amazing array of features offered and the ability to easily access your media collection throughout your home. Once a rarity, media servers, in one form or another, will be found in almost every home.

Intimacy: The Elusive Ingredient in Relationships

I’m sure that you know of, or at least have heard of, the importance of intimacy as a critical factor in the success of a relationship. In this article I wish to discuss:
1. My definition of intimacy.
2. Reasons why intimacy is an elusive ingredient in most relationships, and,
3. What one can do to create more intimacy in one’s relationship.
Firstly, let me begin with what I mean by intimacy. Very simply it is about one’s ability to remain open and honest with their partner about what they are feeling and thinking.
Clearly such a feat is not an easy one for most couples to achieve for reasons which include:
1. Many individuals are often not even aware themselves of what they are thinking and/or feeling.
2. This lack of awareness is often the result of a host of fears of being fully conscious of this information.
3. The fears are often about dredging up uncomfortable feelings about one’s self, one’s past, one’s family, and one’s feelings about their partner and so on.
4. There is a general assumption that it is better for all concerned to keep such information suppressed.
5. There is an assumption that by distracting one’s self from this information that it will just disappear.
This type of self sabotage often leads to a relationship in which the members of the couple never really get to know each other. When this happens it becomes difficult to be fully one’s self with the other and hence the relationship starts feeling constraining and/or energetically draining after a while. This is because it takes a great deal of energy to keep this uncomfortable information suppressed at an unconscious level.
Additionally the relationship will start to feel both unsafe and empty emotionally. Unsafe because each member will not know who they are having a relationship with. Empty because it will be difficult to relax, be one’s self and have a meaningful and fulfilling interchange.
In time cracks will emerge in the relationship and cause it to disintegrate. What can be done to head this off at the pass?
The solution is to help each individual become more open and comfortable with their own inner emotional life i.e. eradicate the fear of their own inner feelings. It sounds ironic, doesn’t it that the solution to the intimacy issue is really about being honest with one’s self first?

Mario Williams : Houston Texans Defensive End

A native of Richlands, North Carolina, Mario Williams was born on New Year’s Eve, January 31, 1985. Currently playing the position of defensive end for the NFL’s Houston Texans, Williams stands 6′7″ and weighs just under 300 pounds.
Like many NFL superstars, Mario Williams got plenty of field time as a youngster. While attending North Carolina State from 2003 until 2005, Williams gained experience as a defensive end. Recruited out of Richlands High School, Mario Williams did not disappoint. He started in each of his three college seasons, recorded 175 tackles and 25 sacks.
One year after college, during the 2006 NFL draft, Mario Williams was chosen by the Houston Texans in a deal that would last for six years and one which is said to be worth $54 million to the North Carolina native. On Saturday, April 29, 2006, Williams was chosen as the # 1 overall draft pick. After much speculation that Houston would select Reggie Bush or Vince Young, all of that guessing ended when Mario Williams came on board as the team’s new defensive end for the 2006 season.
Some reports have indicated that $26 million is guaranteed and, providing Mario Williams achieves the performance goals as stated in the contract, the total payout could total more than $60 million after all is said and done. As the new 2006 NFL season approaches, the Houston Texans will be eager to see if their newest recruit will continue his powerful plays on the field. Friends and family from North Carolina will be equally anxious to watch as Mario Williams continues to live the dream of playing professional football in the NFL.
The Truth About Witchcraft Rituals

I get a very common question: “What is the difference between spells and rituals?” Some Witches don’t think there is a difference… but there is!
…and it is important to know the difference, because there is a “time and place” for both of them. You’ll notice a very different energy created when you do a ritual vs. a spell. And the results of the Magick energy you create and send out into the universe will be very, very different.
Here’s what it’s all about:
Rituals are a little bit like casting spells, but they are often even more powerful than spells.
Witchcraft rituals have a structured sequence of steps that you must follow to get the results you are trying to achieve. Whether it is finding love, money, protection, health, etc. you will also need to have your focus and emotions in the right place as you go through the motions in ritual.
Spells on the other hand, are often much quicker to cast - and you can think of them as little “mini” rituals if you want to. Some spells can be done in a matter of minutes - and some you can even cast when you are walking down the street . (once you know the secret of tapping into Magick energy “on the fly”)
Rituals take you to another level of Magick power entirely. You will have full access to the true power and knowledge of the divine (your deity or deities). This connection to the divine also increases the effects of Magick because you will not only be using your power to the fullest, but that of your deities.
One Big Word Of Warning:
This is the last thing I will say about rituals - because I want you to remember it as one of the most important things you ever learn in Witchcraft. Never do a ritual (or a spell for that matter) when you are angry!
Your ritual or spell can have devastatingly unpredictable results when cast in anger. (And if you are trying to cast a spell to cause harm on someone - which is NEVER recommended, it is possible that it will backfire on you)
The best thing for you to do when you are angry is to take a nice relaxing bath. Step back from the situation in your mind - and calm yourself. Then, when you are ready, you can go into ritual to fix the problem with Magick.

Adjusting To Working From Home!

I’ve heard many people say they get lonely and miss being around work associates when they work at home. You should consider this as you think about starting a home-based business. Will you be able to work by yourself, will you get lonely?
There are people that are almost forced to work at home, such as disabled people, single moms or dads that can’t afford daycare, or don’t want to put their children in daycare. For these folks that didn’t necessarily choose a home career it can be quite difficult.
To really enjoy a home business and keep yourself from going nuts, it’s necessary to establish business hours and a routine.
It’s best to get dressed every day at a reasonable hour, otherwise you find the whole day’s gone and you’re still in your pajamas. It’s great to do that, it’s just not good to do it.
Give yourself a defined meal and try to eat healthy. Don’t grab a snack every half hour. Soon your body will expect to be fed every couple of hours, just like a new baby. Then you’ll start packing on the pounds.
Try to get some fresh air every day. It’s amazing how that will clear your head, solve problems and give you new ideas.
Using the “To Do” list approach mentioned in another article will keep you focused every working day. As you clean your list add new things for the following day and if you’ve finished it early, reward yourself by quitting early. But if you find this happening too often, you may not be challenging yourself enough–don’t forget, you want your business to succeed!
Did You Buy Stolen Merchandise Online?
Thursday August 14th 2008, 1:14 pm

In a recent article, I wrote about how owners of ebooks, software, CDs and other intellectual property can keep from getting ripped off through online auction sites such as eBay and Yahoo auctions.
By popular request (a slew of emails), we’ll now discuss how buyers can avoid receiving stolen, “pirated,” or “bootlegged” merchandise via online auction sites.
Nobody wants to knowingly receive stolen merchandise and the following tips should help you avoid trouble.
Digital downloads such as ebooks, MP3 audio files, and software represent the easiest products to sell illegally on an auction site.
The seller obtains a copy of the file, puts up an auction listing, and then delivers the file to the successful bidder(s) via email or website download.
Because it’s so easy, that’s where many people start their lives of online crime.
Unfortunately for the buyer, this can lead to hot water with the rightful product owner.
** Smart Buying Tips for Digital Download Products:
First, if the person you’re buying the product from didn’t create the product (they aren’t the author), immediately become skeptical.
Do a little research on the author, name of the ebook, and any other information you can find out (Google.com makes a great starting point).
See if you can find where the author is actually selling resell rights to their product and, if in doubt, contact the author to see if others have permission to sell their product at online auctions.
Second, when you see an auction with verbiage such as “Attention eBay Staff: I have full resell rights to this product” get suspicious.
The only reason someone puts that on their auction is if they’ve gotten shut down before or they’re worried they will get shut down if anyone notices them.
A real business person doesn’t need to place such a disclaimer on a legitimate auction.
Third, check the seller’s feedback. Sometimes, the rightful owner of the ebook or software will purchase the product being sold illegally and then leave negative feedback advising people not to buy from that seller.
** Physical Product Purchase Tips:
Illegal CDs and DVDs represent one of the biggest illegal sellers at online auctions when it comes to music, software, movies and educational courses.
An excellent rule of thumb: if they are selling more than one copy (or have held more than one auction for the same product) you need to dig a little deeper.
Ask the seller how they came into possession of more than one copy, especially if it’s an expensive software package or educational course.
Also, ask if the advertised item is an original. If it’s a copy, steer clear and do not buy it.
Another warning sign involves a seller with multiple quantities of never-been-opened merchandise selling for pennies on the dollar.
For example, someone selling 20 brand-new Dell computers that regularly go for $1,500 with a “Buy Now” price of only $200 should raise your suspicions.
If you suspect someone of selling stolen merchandise or illegally selling downloadable products, report your suspicions to the auction service immediately via their support link.
Nobody wins when seller theft on auction sites goes unreported and unchallenged.

Skylight Shades

Skylight shades are fairly recent phenomena in home architecture, but they have gained a lot of popularity. Shades are an innovation in the area of skylights that make the traditional skylights more effective and user friendly. For a long time, people have used skylights only in order to enjoy the option of natural daylight throughout the daytime. Skylights were never popularly considered for areas such as the bathrooms and kitchens.
With skylight shades, all that has changed; you have now the option of using skylights all over your house. With the help of skylight shades, you can install a skylight in your house without worrying about how to block the light out while watching a movie or when you want some privacy for yourself. Most of these skylight shades come with a regular remote control system with which you can regulate the amount of light you require, making them extremely user friendly.
Similar to skylight blinds, skylight shades are also used to diffuse, adjust, or block the light and heat. With shades, you can not only control the quantity of light that enters your room but also enhance the effectiveness of roof windows and skylights by providing additional levels of energy efficiency and comfort.
Translucent white shades filter the light and reduce the glare of the sun so that your skin and your linens are protected from direct UV light. Blinds sometimes score better for applications where privacy is a priority along with humidity control and ventilation. For example, blinds may work better than shades in kitchens and bathrooms. However, shades ensure total room darkening for your TV and entertainment rooms or for your bedroom. These shades usually come with an aluminum reverse, which is double reinforced to provide better insulation to make your air conditioning efficient.
Skylights provides detailed information on Skylights, Skylight Windows, Skylight Blinds, Skylight Shades and more. Skylights is affiliated with Home Lighting Fixtures.
Motivation Tips Designed to Start a Kindness Revolution

Have you been looking for a way to bring some meaning back in to your life? Does it seem like your problems outweigh your good times? Is there anything that can help make you feel better? Could you use some motivation tips to get you started?
Try focusing on helping someone else and almost magically, you’ll begin to feel better. When we focus on ourselves, our feelings, our wants, a negative reaction occurs - namely, dissatisfaction. By focusing on others, the load begins to shift toward a feeling of being helpful instead of feeling helpless.
I know - you’re wondering “what can I do and how can I, just one person, make a difference”? That’s a great question and I’m here to offer some motivation to get you started. These five kindness motivation tips come from the E-book, “101 Ways to Change the World”.
1. Search for ways to compliment people everyday.
your waitress does a good job, be sure to tell her.
Let the dry cleaner know he has a great smile.
Tell a shop owner if you think her store is nice, clean, pretty, etc.
Look for ways to make people feel special.
A little kindness can go a very long way in making someone know they are appreciated. Maybe they’ll pass along a compliment to someone else - kindness is contagious!
2. Bake a plate of cookies for a neighbor or an elderly friend. Cookies are appreciated by everyone, but don’t stop there! Find some other way to make them feel special - maybe give them a compliment too!
3. Buy a gift certificate for:
1 ice cream cone
1 cookie
1 piece of pie
1 rose
1 pizza slice
1 video rental, etc.
It doesn’t have to be much to make a difference - to make someone feel unique. Include a note letting the recipient know how special they are. Just think - not only are you making someone feel special - you are also helping the businesses in your town.
4 After you’ve bought several of the ‘Just 1′ certificates listed above:
Let store owners know what you’re doing.
Ask if they will help you make a difference by donating some certificates for you to extend what you can give away.
Ask around to find out who really needs an extra boost of kindness to feel good - make sure the certificates find their way into their hands.
5. Pay the road toll for the person behind you.
How about 3 or 4 behind you?
Have the Toll Keeper tell them to pass on the kindness to someone else that day.
You may never know what one little kindness from you can produce in the world. The ripple effect of one kindness leading to another can flow around the world. Spread the word. Let’s start a kindness revolution and make a difference using these motivation tips!
